PART #1

  • 1. It’s time to talk about politics

  • 2. The structure of the government is created by the Constitution. 

  • 3. The legislative branch includes the Senate and the House of Representatives. 

  • 4. Senators and representatives propose bills, and if the president signs the bills, they become law.

  • 5. Do you know the name of your congressperson?

PART #2

  • 6. The second part of the government in the Constitution is the Executive Branch.

  • 7. The president works with the cabinet, made up of secretaries of the various departments; this includes the Secretary of State and the Attorney General, among others. 

  • 8. The president executes the laws, and is the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, overseeing the military. 

  • 9. In the next election, we will see who will be our next Chief Executive.

PART #3

  • 10. There is an election coming soon.

  • 11. We will elect the president. 

  • 12. The candidates begin the campaign for the presidency in the primaries and the caucuses in each state. As you win, you are awarded delegates.

  • 13. The nominees from each party will be officially chosen at the conventions.

  • 14. On Election Day, you can’t just win the popular vote; you have to win at least 270 votes in the Electoral College. Then in January, it’s your inauguration.
